Floor Drain

Floor drains are designed to drain any water from the basement floor to an exterior sewer or pipe system. Although water may rise from the drain, this is generally not a waterproofing issue. Mid America Piering recommends contacting a plumber to diagnose your floor drain issues. Check out our service area to see if we do work in your Saint Louis community.

This “waterproofing” system is often seen installed in the basement of older homes, usually in the lowest lying area. Unfortunately, over the years, tree roots and other plant life can expand through the pipe and prevent it from draining water away like normal. Also, if the pipe was made of clay materials, it is not unheard of for the pipe to actually disintegrate into the soil!

As mentioned above, clogs with this floor drain are problems that are typically taken care of by a plumber. However, if you are ready to get a new waterproofing system installed, a sump pump may be the best option for you. It’s also installed in the lowest lying area of a basement and it collects water from drainage systems. The water is sent our and away from the home to a safe distance away.
